I had a season in my life where I was surrounded by lies. I was married to a man who had a double life. His whole persona was based on a full encyclopedia-set of lies. His lies started unwinding about 6 months into our marriage. I felt like I was drowning in lies. I didn’t know what was true, what was a lie and frankly, I didn’t know who he was. As his lies were revealed, he became more and more like a stranger to me.
I would go to my close friends and ask them to tell me something that was true. I didn’t care what it was; the sky is blue, the sun rises in the east, we will have snow this winter, the news comes on at 5:00. Hearing truth helped me get my bearings. One of my friends went the extra mile and met with me once a week. She would read scripture to me and we’d talk about the truth it revealed. She planted eternal truth in my soul. The marriage ended. My feet were firm on a foundation of truth.
Today’s psalm is a “mic-drop” of truth, what else needs to be said? It’s an anchor rope of truth from beginning to end.
This psalm is a prayer for deliverance. David is asking God to turn things around. To once again, be on Israel’s side. The last line says it all: With God on our side we will win, he will defeat our enemies. (Psalm 60:12)
I hope you have all experienced a victory at the hands of the Lord. When God wins a battle for you that you have not been able to win on your own. To witness His hand and His love for you. These moments give us time to absorb His words:
I will help you. (Isaiah 41:13) My yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:30) Ask, and it will be given to you. (Matthew 7:7)
Lord Jesus, I pray we will each see your hand of victory in our lives today.
David wrote this psalm while being pursued by Saul. Saul had all the power, but David had God. He speaks confidently in this psalm about what God will do to help him. Sometimes God works in a powerful way by influencing the circumstances that surround you, bringing in allies, confusing your enemies and interrupting plans formed against you. Sometimes he whispers the truth to you when you are absorbed in lies. A whispered truth is as mighty as an earthquake when it sets you fee. He may remind you who you are with one of these scriptures:
• You are God’s child. (John 1:12)
• You have direct access to God through the Holy Spirit. (Eph 2:18)
• You are free from condemnation. (Romans 8:1,2)
• You can not be separated from the love of Christ. (Romans 8:35)
• You have been chosen and appointed to bear fruit. (John15:16)
Lord, please upgrade our discernment. Help us make sense of all the things we hear, sorting out truth from lies, truthful from deceitful. We will use our ears, our eyes and your wisdom to find truth. Thank you 🙏❤️ Amen
